For this Her Cookbook Club review, we have Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook by Christina Tosi. Despite my love-hate relationship with Momofuku Milk Bar, I think every dessert lover should read this book, at least to get an idea of what is it like to work in a highly successful American dessert shop and how Christina Tosi came up with all her iconic quirky desserts.
Granola Biscotti, what a genius idea. It’s fun and healthier than a regular biscotti with all the oats, raisins and crunchy coconut. But then it’s a biscotti not a granola bar, which eating it will make you feel you’re taking an afternoon break rather than rushing out of the door in the morning. It’s the perfect marriage for both of my favorite meals – breakfast and afternoon tea.
Korvapuusti – Finnish Cinnamon Rolls. A wonderful creation I discovered when visiting Portland. After my first bite, I knew I can never go back. So I made my own. The harmony between cardamon and cinnamon, the almost caramel-like bottom, the softness of the bun contrasting with the crispy pearl sugar. IT’S JUST PERFECTION.

I choose one from the 100000 cookbooks on my bookshelf, re-read it, pick several interesting recipes, test them, snap a photo and write my thoughts down. Today, I thought I would visit an old friend, Thug Kitchen Official Cookbook: Eat Like You Give a F*ck.
Okay let me confess first, I was no crumpet pro at all 3 months ago. In fact, I first heard the word “crumpet” after moving to Seattle, at the The Crumpet Shop in Pike Place Market, but I cannot go back from the moment of that first bite. By now, I think you already knew my obsession with cookbooks. I thought the hardest part of starting Her Cookbook Club would be selecting the first book. You know, I have way too many of them and I am Virgo. Surprisingly, I chose The Love & Lemons Cookbook by Jeanine Donofrio without any hesitation (and it’s not even a baking cookbook!). The real struggle actually is writing the introduction you’re reading now. I have so many thoughts and love for this book. I do not know where to start from. Thankfully after sipping my matcha latte for an hour, I beat my first writer’s block. So here we have it, our first Her Cookbook Club selection!
