I did a thing. It might be the closest thing I could have done to my ultimate dream (AKA opening my own bakery) while still sticking with the plan of going to law school in 2021. I opened an online bakeshop!!
Okay, so first thing first – why did I open an online bakeshop?
Opening an online bakeshop was definitely not a part of my plan this year. Exhausted from being a new mom while taking LSAT, I planned to get some good rest before going to law school in fall 2021. However, after learning the pandemic has sent child hunger to record levels, I knew I needed to do something.
The pandemic is hitting low-income families and people of color — who often work in critical service jobs — the hardest. Working as a barista and baker before myself, I knew the struggles. Therefore, I decided to open an online bakeshop to raise money for low-income families and help reduce child hunger.
I even designed a slogan (pretty proud of this) – Bake, Share, Donate. More details can be found here, but basically if anyone ordered from my bakeshop and shared a picture on social media, I will donate 100% profit from his/her order to a local non-profit organization like Food Lifeline and Hopelink.
I hope I can make myself useful during this difficult time, which brings another reason why I opened a bakeshop and call it Good Day Baking Co. I also stated here – I know 2020 is a difficult year and everyone’s life was largely affected by the pandemic. People were losing jobs while infected cases were rising high. There seemed to be nothing left to celebrate.
I always love the Zen Buddhist proverb “日日是好日”, which translates to “Every day is a good day“. I believe though we’re in the middle of uncertainties, fears, and worries, we can still try to spend every day meaningfully and celebrate every small happiness.
Hence, Good Day Baking Co. is born. I hope my baked goods can bring some highlights to people’s day and the mindfulness of “Every day is a good day”.
I have actually low-key soft-opened the business for 3 weeks now. I was waiting for Instagram to release the account name back to me (who knows it’ll take 14 days), so I only made a post on Nextdoor and my local community FB group. But now I’m ready to bring it to you.
Please spread the love and word to the whole world. Share this blog post, shout out to @gooddaybakingco on Instagram and share the news with someone you know who live in Bellevue, Washington area. I’m ready to meet new challenges, bake a lot, and do my best to give back!!!
Congratulations! This is super exciting!
Thanks!!!!!!
